Stafford Jewelers to Close
Owner John Stafford Overwhelmed by Kim McCarthy’s Existence, Plans to Rage-Write for ‘Greene County Sentinel’
In a dramatic turn of events that has left the community scratching their heads, Stafford Jewelers, a local institution since 1987, has announced its closure. Owner John Stafford, a man whose patriotism is matched only by his inability to handle criticism of the United States, claims he’s shutting down because he can no longer function in a world where Kim McCarthy, head of the Greene County Democratic Party, exists. McCarthy, an Australian immigrant, has committed the unforgivable sin of occasionally pointing out that Australians live longer, healthier lives thanks to their universal healthcare system—a fact Stafford finds deeply offensive.
“It’s just too much,” Stafford said, clutching an American flag and a half-eaten apple pie for emotional support. “Kim McCarthy waltzes in here from Australia, with her fancy accent and her ‘facts,’ and has the audacity to suggest that America isn’t perfect. Do you know what that does to a man? I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t even polish my diamonds properly. She broke me.”
Stafford’s downward spiral began when McCarthy, who moved to Greene County five years ago, made a casual remark at a town hall meeting about how Australia’s healthcare system ensures that no one goes bankrupt from medical bills. “It’s not about being better or worse,” McCarthy said at the time. “It’s just about learning from other countries to improve lives here.” Stafford, who was in the audience, reportedly turned red, muttered something about “socialist kangaroos,” and stormed out.
From that day forward, Stafford became obsessed with McCarthy’s existence. He began blaming her for everything wrong with his life, from the rising cost of gold to the fact that his store’s Wi-Fi was occasionally slow. “She didn’t even criticize me directly,” Stafford admitted. “But her mere presence in this town, with her healthcare facts and her reasonable tone, was like a dagger to my soul. How am I supposed to sell engagement rings when I’m constantly reminded that Australians live longer than Americans?”
The final straw came when McCarthy posted a lighthearted Facebook status about how much she missed Australian meat pies. Stafford interpreted this as a personal attack on American cuisine and promptly announced the closure of Stafford Jewelers. “I can’t compete with her,” he said, tears streaming down his face as he packed up his remaining inventory. “She’s out there living her best life, eating her meat pies, and probably not worrying about going bankrupt if she breaks a leg. Meanwhile, I’m here, trying to sell cubic zirconia to people who just want to argue about Medicare for All.”
Now, Stafford is redirecting his energy into his fake news website, the Greene County Sentinel, where he plans to “expose the truth” about McCarthy and her “anti-American agenda.” Recent headlines on the site include “Kim McCarthy: Secret Agent for the Australian Healthcare Mafia” and “Universal Healthcare Leads to Universal Sadness, Experts Say (Source: Me).” Stafford has also announced a new series called “Kim McCarthy Watch,” which will document her every move, from her trips to the grocery store to her occasional use of the word “mate.”
“The Greene County Sentinel is my last stand against the forces of socialism,” Stafford said, proudly displaying a mock-up of next week’s headline: “Kim McCarthy Caught Smuggling Vegemite Into Local Schools to Brainwash Our Children.” “I may have lost the jewelry store, but I won’t lose the culture war. If that means making up a few stories about Kim, so be it. Freedom isn’t free, folks.”
As Stafford transitions from jeweler to full-time rage-writer, the community is left to wonder what’s next. Will the Greene County Sentinel become a legitimate source of news? Unlikely. Will John Stafford ever recover from the trauma of learning that other countries have functional healthcare systems? Doubtful. And will Kim McCarthy continue to live her life unbothered, occasionally enjoying a meat pie and wondering why John Stafford is so obsessed with her? Absolutely.
For now, one thing is clear: Stafford Jewelers may be gone, but John Stafford’s commitment to being outraged by Kim McCarthy’s existence—and his undying love of apple pie—lives on.

Kim McCarthy, Thank you for all you do. Continue to stand in your power! As I recall Mr. Stanford’s mental health came into question years ago when he wrote a novel bent towards gleeful violence against woman. So it sounds to me like he has had “women” issues before you and desperately needs mental healthcare. Be careful out there. #bear #violenceagainstwomen #Medicare4all #mentalhealth
